Creating, reviewing and improving documentation to make information clearer, easier to find and more accessible.

Technical Authoring, Document Review & Findability

I provide technical authoring, document review and information organisation services, whether you're creating new documentation, improving existing materials or making information easier to find and use.

With many years of experience working alongside subject matter experts and professionals across organisations, I understand how to gather, interpret and structure complex information so that it's clear, accurate and accessible to its intended audience.

Clear, well-structured documentation helps people understand what's expected, find the information they need and carry out their work effectively.

The aim isn't to introduce more bureaucracy. It's to make existing information more accessible and useful.

This can include reviewing categorisation, naming conventions, document locations, duplication, navigation and consistency.

Working with someone from within your organisation, I explore how your existing systems work in practice, identify unnecessary barriers or inconsistencies, and recommend practical ways to make information easier and more intuitive to find.

Even well-written documents are of limited value if people cannot find them when they need them.

Making workplace information easier to locate, navigate and use.

Information Organisation & Findability Review

The result is a more sustainable approach to document management, with less reliance on external support for routine quality checks.

The aim isn't to turn employees into technical authors. It's to give them the guidance, tools and confidence to maintain document quality, recognise when something needs attention and know when specialist support may be required.

This may include working with designated staff to identify common issues, understand what to check before documents are approved or published, and establish clear responsibilities for keeping information accurate and up to date.

As part of a wider consultancy project, I can help you develop document standards, quality-control checklists and review processes that suit your organisation.

Improving existing documents is only part of the challenge. Organisations also need practical ways to maintain those improvements and ensure new documents meet the same standards.

Helping organisations establish and maintain clear, consistent and usable workplace documents.

Document Quality & Continuous Improvement

How the document relates to other documents, processes and working practices.

Missing information, assumptions or unnecessary complexity.

Ownership, responsibilities and decision-making.

Structure, layout and ease of navigation.

Clarity of language, instructions and expectations.

This may include looking at:

I review workplace documents through a practical, neuro-inclusive lens, considering how people are expected to find, understand and use the information.

A document can contain all the necessary information and still be difficult to use.

Specialist review of workplace documents to improve clarity, usability and neuro-inclusion.

Document Review & Improvement

Receive practical, explained recommendations that help you improve the document being reviewed and apply the learning more widely.

The scope and deliverables are agreed in advance, following an initial discovery conversation.

Where appropriate, I can also help rewrite or restructure documentation, rather than simply identifying what needs to change.

Throughout the process, I ask questions, identify gaps and clarify assumptions to ensure the finished documentation accurately reflects how things work and provides the information people need to work effectively.

This can include developing policies, procedures, process documentation, operational guidance, user guides and training materials. Whether starting from scratch or bringing together information from multiple sources, I focus on creating documents that are logically structured, consistent and appropriate for their intended audience.

I work collaboratively with subject matter experts and professionals across organisations to gather, interpret and organise specialist knowledge, turning complex information into clear, accurate and usable documentation.

Effective technical documentation is about more than writing clearly. It requires an understanding of the subject matter, the people who will use the information and what they need to achieve.

Turning specialist knowledge into clear, accurate and practical documentation that people can understand and use.

Technical Authoring

While technical authoring and document review can be valuable standalone services, they can also form part of a wider approach to improving workplace clarity, communication and neuro-inclusion.

This experience, combined with my work as a neurodiversity coach, helped shape The NEW E.R.A. Method® – a practical framework for exploring how work happens, making processes visible and identifying improvements that benefit everyone.

My experience in technical authoring has shown me how much difference clear, accessible and well-organised information can make to the way people work.

It has also highlighted how easily gaps, inconsistencies and assumptions can become embedded in everyday processes, often without anyone recognising the difficulties they create.

The aim is always to find practical solutions that work for the people involved, without introducing unnecessary complexity or bureaucracy.

I work with organisations to explore these challenges, identify what's getting in the way and develop practical, proportionate improvements.

Not every workplace challenge starts with a document or process. Sometimes the difficulty lies in how people communicate, how responsibilities are understood, or how working practices affect different members of a team.
